Imagined by Oskar Australian, b. 1986
Imagined by Oskar (aka Sam Holt) (b. 1986, Sydney) is a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, sculpture, installation, and printmaking. His practice explores memory, time, and self-discovery, often through experimental use of raw linen, patchwork, and found materials that trace connections between lived experience, environment, and identity.
He studied at the National Art School before completing a Bachelor of Visual Arts at Sydney College of the Arts in 2017, including an exchange at the Universität der Künste, Berlin. In 2017 he was awarded the Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarship for Painting, which supported an extended period of research and practice in Berlin before returning to Sydney in 2019.
Alongside his studio practice, Imagine by Oskar is the founder of Thoughts I Wanted to See, a creative platform established in 2020 dedicated to curiosity-driven, idea-centric objects and designs. This project extends his artistic sensibility into the realms of publishing and product design, blurring the line between contemporary art and everyday experience.
He has presented solo exhibitions with Artereal Gallery, Sydney, and participated in major fairs such as Sydney Contemporary and Art Central Hong Kong. His work is held in public and private collections including Artbank and Servcorp.
