Yin Chua Singaporean, b. 1981
“As I paint peace, I endeavor to share not just the beauty of art but also the values of harmony, mindfulness, and compassion.”
Yin Chua’s art is inspired by the spiritual practice of meditation and her love for nature. Central to her artistic ethos are the teachings of Zen philosophy, where the principles of mindfulness, simplicity, and harmony guided her art.
Yin’s minimalist style is also influenced by traditional Chinese paintings where the East meets the West. She often depicts concepts such as “liu bai - 留白”, meaning the use of negative space, and “Shanshui- 山水”, auspicious landscape paintings featuring water and mountain elements for good Fengshui using contemporary Western techniques like abstraction, expressionism, and contemporary mediums. The integration of mindfulness principles such as “emptiness” and “impermanence” into her work serves as a bridge between the ancient wisdom of the East and the contemporary expressions of the present.
The artist’s transformative encounter with a 10-day silent retreat became a pivotal point in her artistic evolution. This experience greatly impacted her art and steered her towards embracing a minimalist lifestyle.
Yin's artistic strokes are aimed at capturing the natural flow, the rhythm of seasons, and the inherent calm present in the world around us. Her art serves as a medium for channeling the serene beauty of landscapes, which has been inspired by her retreats to places like the Himalayas and Bhutan.
Yin's works are collected locally and internationally. She currently lives and works in Singapore.
