Anne Sorensen Australian

Anne Sorensen has been a full time studio glass artist for thirty years, working from her purpose-built studio in Bouvard, Western Australia. Firstly, lead light and copper foil lamps, then kiln-formed glass.  The last ten years has seen her practice devoted to kiln-formed glass.

Having developed some basic techniques, Anne has completed many glass workshops in the last fifteen years, in Australia, Scotland, and New Zealand, to discover new techniques and broaden her glass education. She has a Certificate III in Glass and Glazing.

Born in Tasmania and having spent her childhood in Hobart, her natural environment was never taken for granted.  After moving to Western Australia in her twenties,  she travelled and worked in the North West of Western Australia. The vast difference between the landscapes made a marked impression on her.  The colour and beauty of the North West later had a huge effect on the development of her work.

Experimentation is a large part of her practice, working with glass powders, sheet glass and billets. She enjoys the challenge of taking an idea to fruition.  Whether it be an idea based on an emotional response to events in her daily life, or simply an appreciation of her natural environment, Anne’s work is often anthropomorphic.   Life’s balance is also a constant consideration.

Anne has won numerous awards for her work, including selection in the Ranamok Glass Prize in 2011 and 2012, and has been selected as a finalist in the prestigious Tom Malone Art Prize 2019.

Anne exhibits throughout Australia and New Zealand, and her works are held in private collections throughout Australia, the U.K., France, New Zealand, Switzerland and the U.S.A.
